50 shades of pasta |
Kamakura first opened their door on March 2016. They are located in line with Abura Soba, Cut The Crab and Hype Land. This February they launch a new pasta menu. They Japanese Chef that once worked on Michelin starred restaurant create a selection of fusion pasta, a combination between Italian Pasta and Japanese Sauce (some of them, details below). You can easily spot Kamakura by their huge vertical sign.
When you walked in to the cafe their interior is dominated with wood, blue sofa and yellow lighting. they also decorate the walls with frames of Japan pictures, some quotes and a lot of tiny black shadow. They also have one wall of 'information from japan', with some Japanese magazine.

We can definitely stay here for hours, each of the table have it's own charging station. Perfect for working with computers. As we visited they are a group of business man doing meeting there. At that point we realize that kamakura is more like a serious cafe, and not just pretty looking dessert. (tbh we often pass by but we thought its just another dessert shop)
Let's start from the drink we had Matcha Ice Cube and Thai Tea Ice Cube. The Ice Cube itself is made from your chosen drink, it comes with a warm milk and a glass of sugar.

They recommend Ice Cube drink and highlight that their matcha powder was imported from japan, so we decide to give it a shot. When it's half melted we can still cope with the matcha, but after we ate the main dishes and also found out there are red bean inside the cube, this drink becomes bitter and we had to add some sugar to it.

Our second choice is Thai tea, it's been a trend lately that everyone is making a thai tea drink but most of them used way too much ice on it. Had to admit we're the slow drinker, so we know that melted iced definetely ruin a blissfull cup of thai tea. With a thai tea ice cube it keep our thai tea in a 'strong fragrance' state til the very last sip.

Moving on the the main course, as we mentioned earlier that they offer a fusion pasta. You can choose what kind of sauce you want, they have
Japanese Style Mentaiko Pasta, Shoyu Flavor Aglio Olio, Shoyu Cream Sauce, Aglio Olio, Homemade Tomato Sauce, Homemade Bolognese, Creamy Sauce, Tomato Cream Sauce, and Cold Salad Pasta.
We can't choose from all that selection so we asked them which one is the most favorite one and they recommend Japanese Mentaiko Pasta and Tomato Cream Sauce.
After Choosing the sauce it didn't stop there, you still have to choose what topping you want inside your pasta, for example the Japanese Mentaiko Pasta they have original, squido, 3 kinds of mushroom and Mix Seafood. Our selection goes to Mix Seafood. we think seafood look the pretties in frame :p
Lastly you can choose the portion of the pasta from S, M, L and XL weighting from 50gr, 70gr, 100gr and 120gr.
Are you thinking what we're thinking? We think that we can taste all of them by ordering the S size. Ahahahaha kidding..
Japanese Style Mentaiko Pasta with Mixed Seafood - IDR 123k
Mentaiko may not sound familiar here in J-twon but it is a popular menu in Japan. This Japanese-Italian fusion pasta main material is a cod roe combined with Japanese Mayonnaise. They use fresh prawn, baby octopus and mussel for the mixed seafood. We really like the softness from the pasta with a little bit of salty from seaweed and sweet as it goes really well with the seafood.
after tasting this we're HOOKED like an octopus tentacles!

Shoyu Cream Sauce with Chicken and Spinach - 68k
She's not a big fan of Creamy pasta when they serves this one, she's a bit pessimistic that it will delight her. Adding some soy sauce to a cream sauce is a clever way to neutralize the thick cream sauce while adding some savory taste.

They use generous amount of minced beef and the bolognese itself is light and flavorful.

Save the best for the last, this one got into the top 5 recommended menu in Kamakura. The use of Soft Shell crabs makes this menu utterly sweet. Plus point who doesn't like easily open claws?
